Ask The Wax Expert!

O.k., so you wanna get waxed? Here's the scoop/rules: Gigi Honee Wax is applied warm, then removed using muslin strips. Gigi is the most effective method of removing hair completely, by the roots, thereby damaging the follicles, which is what we want when it comes to unwanted body hair! Shaving is the BEST thing you can do for hair. Just like getting your hair ends trimmed, it makes hair more blunt, cutting it off where it's thickest, causing nubs. It stimulates the follicles, making the hair grow in faster, coarser, darker, and the roots stronger so they hold on tighter. Worst of all, it encourages each follicle to produce 2 or more hairs! Waxing, however,  is the WORST thing you can do for hair. It pulls it out from the root, thereby damaging the follicle. The hair will come in finer, thinner, and weaker, with only one hair per follicle. Eventually 30-60% will die off permanently. No itching and no razor rash. Here are the rules to success:

1st:  Let it grow! Two weeks or more, 1/8" to 1/4", it can't be too long.

2nd: Any redness or irritation will be gone in 30 min. to 24 hours, depending on skin fairness and sensitivity, so schedule only a day or so in advance of trip/need  to stay hairless.  Lasts approximately four weeks

3rd:  No tanning  of any kind for at least 24 hours before or after.

4th:  If you are using anything that may be thinning your skin,  such as acne products or alpha hydroxy's,  you must quit using them for 2-4 days prior, and tell me! If you are on Retin A, 4-7 days! Avoid heavy moisturizer or cream before-hand, the drier the skin the better.

5th:  Pain? It hurts, a little or a lot the first time, especially if you have been shaving, but 50% less (I promise!) the second time, getting  easier ever after.

6th: Ingrowns? If you are prone to ingrowns, you may continue to have some with waxing, but far less than shaving. I remove all the ingrowns during every waxing. I sell Tend Skin, which is the best for ingrowns and razor rash, $20 for 4 oz., $35 for 8 oz. Use twice a day for 4 days, then once a day, with regular exfoliation.

7th:  How long does it last? Typically 4 weeks. Usually no hair for about 2 weeks, a little less the first time if the hair wasn't quite long enough, or the roots too healthy. The hair then sprinkles in the 2nd to the 3rd week, the 3rd to the 4th week gets a bit hairy. The more you wax, as long as you don't shave, the softer it gets and the longer it  lasts.

8th, 9th, 10th:  DON'T SHAVE!! It puts us back at the beginning, undoing all our hard work 😩

That's the scoop. If you have any questions, feel free to text.
